It's no different than the multitude of ways that the movies have shown purgers upping the ante for each year's celebration. And that's the problem.

The films gets in its own way, most often by wanting to dispense with the baggage of its franchise, but not finding an escape from the franchise only existing at all because of the baggage.

Suffers from too many of the genre's cliches, ultimately proving to be nothing more than the same slasher retread we've seen since Carpenter's first film arrived in theaters 40 years ago.

It's all slickly executed by Green, but there's a lingering sense of familiarity that dulls the blade of Michael's knife.

Frustratingly average and feels like only a slightly better than normal addition to the franchise despite luring Jamie Lee Curtis back

While it's great to see a return to form for Michael Myers, Halloween relies too much on its nostalgic past and is brought down by the very thing that was meant to revitalize it.

Jamie Lee Curtis shines in an otherwise rote sequel to a horror classic. While we were ultimately left holding a mixed bag, [Halloween's] ending reel was the movie we all signed up for.

This felt ... like a fan film that managed to get everybody back that was in the original, but wasn't able to really recapture anything of what made it special to begin with.

This just felt like a waste of my time...we need to figure out why we're still doing these reboots.

So predictable and formulaic, caught up in the stereotypical slasher movie genre, that it becomes just another Halloween sequel, not capturing any of the sensory prelude to terror that Carpenter so perfectly parlayed.

This Halloween wants to rewrite the canon and be the definitive sequel, but it is merely just another sequel.

The finale of the film is satisfying in the extreme, as primal and exacting as we wish the film entire would have been.

The filmmakers' investment seems less in the conflict between two opposing forces than in the power trip of Michael's position, in seeing other people as sport. But they don't know how to make it more complicated or tactile, or any more real than that...

For a project that has been riding high with anticipation from "Halloween" fans, this is no way to reward them.

There's a shortage of ideas in Halloween, but how could there not be? It's the 11th movie in the saga. [Full Review in Spanish]

It is an interesting, even admirable choice to wipe clean everything that we knew from Halloween 2 to Halloween Resurrection, ignoring Rob Zombie's painful remakes...yet this new Halloween misses most of the opportunities that this approach offers.

While it doesn't do much to elevate the genre, Halloween does tick each and every box, which should be more than enough to appease your run of the mill fanboy, but scare off anyone with half a brain.
